PacketLogic/V Virtualized Solution

  • Reduce hardware dependencies, reduce capital expenditure and accelerate deployment
  • Sized for your needs from a few Mbps to over 100Gbps
  • Based on the NFV (Network Function Virtualization) architectural framework and SDN standards

For too long data networks have been
limited by hardware dependencies

ETSI ISG NFV Working Group White Paper

A recent ETSI working group white paper found that the push towards virtualized network solutions  was being driven by:

  • Space and power requirements in data centres
  • Increasing costs of energy
  • Capital investment challenges
  • Lack of skills to design, integrate and operate complex hardware
  • Hardware going end-of-life faster
  • Hardware being made obsolete from technology and service acceleration that constrains innovation

Telecommunication and IT Network operators are demanding greater deployment flexibility and hardware independence when evaluating new network solutions. Why? For too long networks have been built using a myriad of different systems with many running on proprietary hardware platforms.

Business and other software applications have been virtualized for some time however the move to virtualize data network solutions has been slower due to the  complexity of the networks, reliability concerns, integration with other network elements and the lack of suitable server hardware to host  virtualized network elements.

"The market for mobile network gear is a few hundred mobile operators, the market for standard hardware is basically everybody in the world. It's economies of scale at its best," Hanssen said.

"Their [Procera's] ability to deliver a fully virtualized PacketLogic solution enabled Boingo to achieve the ROI that we needed for our business model. We evaluated hardware-based solutions, but they did not meet our cost or deployment flexibility requirements."

- Derek Peterson  (Ph.D., Chief Technology Officer of Boingo Wireless)
